There’s something particularly eerie about a dirt crawlspace. In particular, there was something eerie about this Lexington, South Carolina crawlspace. The dirt in addition to the scattered debris, it all really sets the scene for a scary movie. Most people, I’m guessing, don’t look for that factor in a crawlspace. Most people don’t want that space to scare them. However, there’s something truly frightening about a crawlspace like this one. It is that exposed dirt floor. That is what is truly awful.
Can’t see it? Let me explain.
Observe the “before” photo. Along the walls are whitish areas were water has come and gone. We know it has been there because the water left behind a stain of evidence. The walls are made from concrete block, and they are porous. That’s true. However, the floors are not blameless. The dirt floors allow in bugs and water vapor. The water vapor increases the moisture and the humidity within the space. The bugs make crawling into the crawlspace even less savory than it was.
This issue is resolved in the “after” photo. Our patented CleanSpace liner is installed in sealed on the walls and floor. The liner acts as a protective barrier against all sort so intruders—water or otherwise.
There are many reasons why homeowners call All-Dry of the Carolinas to come to take a look at their home. It ranges from people who have noticed potential issues starting to arise to homeowners who have had problems for 15 years without ever addressing the problem and everyone in between! Fortunately, we have a solution for just about everyone that we visit, no matter what shape their basement or crawlspace may be in.
This homeowner actually had not noticed any major issues with their crawlspace, but was interested in having their crawlspace encapsulated for the many benefits it provides. The only thing they had ever noticed was a slight musty smell in the crawlspace. Through some online research they found our site and the information about the benefits of encapsulation.
We had one of our System Design Specialists go out to the home and see what we could do for this homeowner. After checking everything out, he agreed that there wasn't too much to be worried about as far as water in the crawlspace. This led to the Specialist suggesting the homeowner go with a simple CleanSpace encapsulation with a dehumidifier. Our crew came out just a few days later to install this whole system. The homeowner was extremely happy with their new, healthier crawlspace.
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times: a dirt crawlspace is only as good as its vapor barrier. And this vapor barrier in this Lincolnton, Georgia crawlspace was not good at all. What was the barrier’s sin? Well, for starters, it’s barely a liner let alone a “barrier.” It sits on the dirt mounds without any real rhyme or reason. It isn’t being held down or tapped to the ground by any means. It’s—quite literally—just there. This is no good.
The difference between our vapor barrier and this one is plain. Not only is ours more secure, but its thicker. It isn’t made from some flimsy material. What’s more is that ours is mold resistant. It’s sealed using a variety of methods but all of them are designed to keep the CleanSpace in place.
Crawlspaces are often not taken advantage of nearly as much as they should be. This crawlspace ended up being a trash dump for rocks, tubing, and just about anything else. Unfortunately a lot of crawlspaces look very similar to this one before it had CleanSpace installed. Crawlspaces are a huge part of your home and have great uses, like a ton of extra storage, but many people don't realize the potential for it.
This homeowner was having issues with too much moisture in their crawlspace, which is why they initially had one of our System Design Specialist out to the home who recommend a SmartSump Pumping System as part of the solution . However, once our crew came out to the home and rolled out the CleanSpace, the homeowner realized the potential that they had with this "new" crawlspace. While they were certainly excited that the moisture problem had been taken care of, they were also excited that they had a new area of the home to use!
CleanSpace was installed to encapsulate this crawl space for a homeowner located in Johnston, SC.
