Crawlspaces shouldn’t have dirt floors. There, I said it. They shouldn’t have dirt floors, and yet thousands of them do. Millions of them have dirt floors and there’s nothing we can do to stop this phenomenon short of outlawing it. Until it is outlawed, we will continue to suggest putting down a durable, thick barrier to protect your home.

What are the dangers a dirt floor presents? Besides allowing water vapor to fill the air and gases to scoot through the house, it can raise your electric bill exponentially.  Honestly, what’s worse than an electric bill you were not prepared for?

What our CleanSpace liner does is become the last liner of defense from the earth. Our liner is expertly sealed and flawless. Unlike many other liners, it’s 20 mills thick and reinforced with polyester cords. This makes it durable and nearly impossible to rip accidentally. CleanSpace is the perfect solution for a bad situation. Take a look at this Brevard, North Carolina crawlspace. Notice what it was and what it has become.

Unique cases are often some of our favorites here at All-Dry of the Carolinas. This Brevard, North Carolina home had a crawlspace and basement combination. The crawlspace area (depicted here) had a liner pulled tight against the dirt floor. It had this liner, but it was not contributing to the overall protection of the home. It was thin, and not completely reliable. While it covered the majority of the dirt floor, it was not secured. There was no single sheet. The liner was a collection of sheets haphazardly banded together. It couldn’t really be trusted.

What’s the solution?

CleanSpace, our patented liner, and an Aprilaire dehumidifier are the tried and true solution. The CleanSpace provides the perfect barrier from the earth, while the dehumidifier removes all moisture from the air. There has never been a more perfect team.

Job Stories From Transylvania County, NC
Wet Basement Waterproofing in Rosman, NC

This home was having some pretty serious problems with water intrusion through its basement walls. This was certainly an issue for the homeowner because it meant that unless they found a way to take care of it, there were some pretty serious repercussions. Unfortunately, we were not able to get very good photos of the basement beforehand, but the first picture shows a little of the water intrusion on the wall, where water has soaked through, evaporated, and left minerals behind.

One of our Systems Design Specialist went to the home and figured what type of system and combination of products would be best for this homeowner. The solution that our specialist put together was a combination of three products; CleanSpace Wall, WaterGuard Drain, and a SuperSump. These three products together make a pretty formidable team, all working together in order to keep the basement dry!

The first thing that the crew did was to tear up and dig out the concrete for the sump pump that was to be installed. Once this was done, and the sump pump was all set up, the crew continued digging out the perimeter of the basement so that the WaterGuard could be put in. WaterGuard is a drain that leaves a small gap between the wall and collects the water that runs off of the wall. Then comes the CleanSpace Wall, which helps to collect and direct the collected water to the WaterGuard and then sump pump.

WaterGuard Installed in Wet Basement in Pisgah Forest, NC

This older home in Pisgah Forest was having some issues with water getting into the basement and causing damage to the floors and walls of the home. The homeowner began to notice this and called us in order to figure out what was wrong. During his inspection, he began to notice water coming up from this basement floor, and determined that this was the main cause of all the water in this home.

However, water does not just usually start oozing out of the middle of the floor, but rather from the edges, where the floor and wall meet. This was the case for this home, which is great, because it is definitely a problem that we are able to take care of. With just a couple of products, we were able to drastically change the condition and health of not only the homeowner's basement area, but the entire home.

Our Systems Design Specialist only recommended two items; WaterGuard Drain and a SuperSump pump system. While this may seem small for such an important issue, these two products were able to work together in order to really keep the water from staying in the basement. The SuperSump was installed first, because it is where the WaterGuard must be attached to. The sump pump is where the water collects, and is then pumped outside the home. Our sump pumps are the best of the best and have several features that make them even safe and more effective. Then the WaterGuard is installed by digging up the area around the perimeter of the basement. The drain goes into this trench and is then concreted over. However, there is a small gap left between the wall and floor, where water can get into the drain.

Water in Lake Toxaway, NC Crawlspace Leads to CleanSpace Encapsulation

This homeowner called us when he started to notice some water on his old crawlspace liner, which concerned him because he knew that there was a possibility for mold to grow if the problem wasn't solved quickly. This homeowner had spent some time, effort, and money on his old liner, but as you can tell, it did not provide much protection. He called All-Dry to set up an appointment to see what we would be able to do for him.

When our Systems Design Specialist went out to the home, he began noticing signs of water intrusion and knew that this home was going to need a pretty extensive system installed to make sure that water was kept out of the crawlspace. After the Specialist had gone through the crawlspace, he had drawn up a system that would help to keep moisture out of this crawlspace. It included; drainage matting, CleanSpace Liner, an EverLast Door, SaniDry CX dehumidifier, and a condensate pump.

The crew started by removing any debris in the crawlspace, like fallen insulation and the old plastic liner. After this, the crew started to lay out the drainage matting, which helps to move the water along. Then they laid the CleanSpace liner over the drainage matting, the CleanSpace really helps to seal everything off in the crawlspace. The crew then got to work on putting in the EverLast door and SaniDry dehumidifier/condensate pump. The EverLast door creates an airtight seal around the entrance to the crawlspace, so that no air or moisture can get into the crawlspace. The dehumidifier helps to suck any moisture out of the air, and the condensate pump pumps out all of the water outside the crawlspace.

Mold and Soaked Insulation in Brevard, NC Crawlspace Leads to CleanSpace Encapsulation

Mold and mildew are never great things to see in the crawlspace of a home. If either one is already in a crawlspace, then it means that the moisture level of the crawlspace is too high. Mold can cause health problems, especially in older adults, children, and people who already have trouble breathing, like those with asthma. The best way to remedy this is to control the moisture level and then remove the mold from the area.

This home in Brevard had severe moisture issues in their crawlspace, which had caused mold and mildew to start growing on the floor joists and other wood throughout the crawlspace. It took quite a while before the homeowner noticed the moisture issues, but once they did they began searching online for people to come out and take a look at the issues they were having. Fortunately, they found us and had one of our System Design Specialists come out to the home to figure out exactly what was wrong. The homeowner thought the system would work great and scheduled to have the crew come out!

A couple of weeks later the crew headed out to Brevard to install the CleanSpace encapsulation system for the homeowner! One of the most important parts of this project was laying the CleanSpace out to cover the crawlspace floor and walls. This helps to really seal off the crawlspace, preventing water and moisture from getting into the area. The crew had a few other products to install, the most important ones being the SaniDry dehumidifier and EverLast door. The dehumidifier ensures that the relative humidity level of the crawlspace stays below the point where mold is able to grow. The EverLast door creates an airtight seal around the entrance to the crawlspace, which helps to keep out even more humid air!

High Moisture Level in Brevard, NC Leads to Installation of the CleanSpace Encapsulation System

Moisture under a home is something that many homeowners have to deal with. People don't realize how widespread of an issue this is, mainly because they aren't sure exactly what a crawlspace should look and feel like. There is a lot more science behind crawlspaces, basements, and homes in general than you could imagine. Changing one thing in the crawlspace may not only affect the crawlspace but the entire home. This is what our system takes advantage of.

This particular homeowner thought that there was too much moisture in the crawlspace of the home and decided to look into solutions for it. Through some online research, they were able to find us and wanted to have one of our System Design Specialists come to visit the home. We sent our Specialist out soon after they called in to schedule an appointment, and figured out what the best option would be for this homeowner. The Specialist suggested that the homeowner have CleanSpace installed as well as a dehumidifier.

The next step was for the crew to head out to the home and start the installation of the CleanSpace liner. While there weren't many products to install in this crawlspace, the area was quite large, so the crew had a big task ahead of them. Fortunately, they were able to start working through laying out the CleanSpace and get into a rhythm of installing it. After the CleanSpace was installed and properly sealed up by the crew, the last thing that they had to do was to install the dehumidifier in the crawlspace. The dehumidifier is installed in order to keep the humidity level of the crawlspace below the point where mold is able to grow.

Encapsulation Installed in Brevard, NC

This Brevard, North Carolina resident did her research before reaching out to us. When waterproofing a crawlspace, it is important to note that there are many moving parts. To solve one issue (depending on its size) you may need a few products. The owner understood this, and after fully immersing herself in all things “crawlspace”, she came out with a few must haves.

First of all, she, knowing she had a crawlspace, knew she would a vapor barrier at the very least. She wanted the entire area dehumidified and a sump pump installed to contain and direct all water leakage. Our Design Specialist David Listovitch very enthusiastically surveyed the home to give his take on it. He came back to use with the same result.

Our crew would first need to remove all insulation from the crawlspace. It had become essentially useless anyway, so that was no problem for the owner. To keep the outside air at bay, they sealed all vents. Next, they would begin the install of a SmartSump pump, one which comes with a WaterWatch Alarm. From there, drainage matting would be installed along the dirt floor to be covered by our patented CleanSpace liner. They’d move forward to wrap all support piers in the material and then finish the install of the SmartSump. Next, they would go forth to connect the SmartSump to both the IceGuard and the LawnScape Outlet. The crawlspace entrance was closed by our Turtl crawlspace access system. Last but not least, to eliminate all moisture we install our Aprilaire 1850 dehumidifier.

Combining these productions create the encapsulation the customer wanted. She was extremely satisfied with the work and was all too excited to praise our crew. We were happy to hear this especially because we always strive to give our customers our very best service.
