Truth often hurts. The truth of our homes can be the mightiest hurt inflicted. We like to pretend that the space beneath our homes is fine.  We put it out of our minds until it can no longer be ignored. This is true for a lot of people. This was especially true for this Hartwell, Georgia crawlspace.

The homeowners had suffered for quite a while before deciding to contact us at All-Dry of the Carolinas. Their floors were beginning to buckle and the doors were starting to stick. Even more annoying, they had a hard time maintaining a consistent temperature in the home thanks to the wet crawlspace. This happens often. In the winter time, the floors are cold. In the summer, it’s unbearably hot in every room unless you’re willing to shell out a hefty sum for air conditioning. It’s a lose-lose situation.

Eventually, however, they did contact us. They reached out to us when they could stand it no longer. In response, we sent out our Design Specialist, Jonathan Geddie, to survey the crawlspace. He noted several things whilst at the home. Firstly, the homeowner did not exaggerate the state of the crawlspace. The dirt was completely soaked and clumpy. Because the dirt had not dried yet, we can assume that water continued to pour into the crawlspace periodically.  This made it even easier for water vapor to rise from the dirt and affect the humidity in the crawlspace. The owners did attempt to protect their home from the things rising from the dirt. They placed a thin sheet of plastic down in certain areas of the crawlspaces. However, this did nothing more than decorate the space.

Not only was the liner thin, but it also did not cover the entire crawlspace. Large areas of dirt were left utterly exposed, completely voiding the purpose of the liner. The walls, of course, practically poured water, leaving behind efflorescence in its wake.

Taking all of this in consideration, the Mr. Geddie prescribed a few products to save the day. Our crew, led by Foreman Ray Petry, installed beautiful CleanSpace (our preferred and patented liner). They also wrapped the piers in this product and installed a SuperSump pump. A three inch drain tile was installed along with a LawnScape outlet. The interior vents were sealed and an Aprilaire 1820 dehumidifier topped the cake. For this moisture-filled crawlspace, a full encapsulation was needed. Now it looks completely new and improved. This is a true transformation, one for the better.

The owner was happy when we finished and we were proud it turned out so well.
