Mold on Floor Joist
Here is one of the main reasons why the homeowner called us to come check out their home. You can see quite a bit of mold on the floor joists of the crawlspace. This was definitely something that needed to be taken care of, and the sooner the better.
Unsealed Vents
An extremely important part of encapsulating crawlspaces and protecting them against increased moisture, is to seal vents. Especially in the South, where the air is almost always humid. When the air enters the basement, it often condenses onto surfaces like pipes and duct work under the home.
Crawlspace Before Installation
While this looks similar to a crawlspace that has CleanSpace already installed by us, it actually isn't. This homeowner had laid down some other crawlspace liner in a similar fashion, but still was not able to get the desired results. CleanSpace and the process to install it is unique, and it shows with the results it produces!
Another Photo of the Crawlspace Before Installation
Here is another picture that shows the crawlspace before the encapsulation was done. This is one of the more well done installations of a crawlspace liner, but it still wasn't able to keep the moisture out. CleanSpace is much thicker than these liners, and more importantly the way that our crews seal the CleanSpace is what really helps to keep the moisture out.
More Unencapsulated Crawlspace
Here is another photo of the crawlspace before any work was done. As you can see, this was quite a large crawlspace that needed A LOT of CleanSpace to cover. But no worries, our crew was up for the challenge! Fortunately, there was not much else to the job besides the CleanSpace, and just a few other products!
More of the Old Crawlspace Liner
This picture shows the crawlspace when our Systems Design Specialist first inspected the home. While it looks like it is pretty well done, it was still not able to keep the water vapor out of the crawlspace. This liner was not brought up on the walls or support columns, and nothing was sealed correctly. This allowed water vapor to get into the crawlspace and begin to cause damage.
Last View of the Old Liner
The quality of this product was much better than most other crawlspace liners that we've seen before, which just goes to show you that CleanSpace is really one of the only products that you can rely on! The product itself is amazing, but the way that are crews are taught to install is even more important!
Installed CleanSpace Liner and Sump Pump
Here is what the finished product looks like! As you can see, the CleanSpace liner goes all the way up the walls of the crawlspace, so that even less water vapor can get through the walls. This also helps with drainage of the water to the sump pump. The SmartSump system is located in the lowest part of the crawlspace, so that the water will naturally drain to it, where it will pump the water out and away from the home!
Better View of the Encapsulated Crawlspace
This photo shows the CleanSpace even better than the last. In this photo you get a better sense of how far up the wall the CleanSpace goes, which you can see is almost all of the way up, leaving only a few inches for other contractors to do work. This photo also shows how tight the crew gets the CleanSpace to the floor and walls, so that it is difficult to accidentally pull it off the wall.
LawnScape Outlet
This is where the sump pumps the water to from the crawlspace. As you can see, this is on the edge of the yard, as well as being very low profile. This means that you can still cut your grass without having to worry about tearing up your mower or the LawnScape outlet!
