Old Crawlspace Liner
We see this type of crawlspace liner/vapor barrier very often, and more than likely you probably something similar as well! While these sometimes help to keep the your pants clean when you're under a home, that is pretty much the extent of what they do. There are two main reasons why these liners aren't particularly effective; 1) they are too thin, which makes them easy to rip and tear, and 2) when installed, these liners are usually not sealed properly, if at all.
Unencapsulated Area in Crawlspace
Here is another view of the unencapsulated crawlspace, with only the old crawlspace liner laid out for protection. Here you can see that the liner was not sealed at all onto the sides of the crawlspace. Without being sealed, the crawlspace is open to any water vapor that may come from the ground, which can lead to mold and mildew growth.
Drainage Mat and CleanSpace Liner
This is something that does not get shown very often, because drainage mat goes under CleanSpace, so unless the crew decides to take photos during the work and not only before and after, we don't get to see the drainage mat being installed! This mat helps to move water along the bottom, so the sump or drainage area. In this case any water collected will go to the SmartDrain. Drainage mat also doubles as some cushion, it provides a little more support than solid ground while crawling on the crawlsapce floor.
More Drainage Mat
This gives an even better view of the drainage matting that was installed in the crawlspace. As previously mentioned, the drain mat is a very functional product by not only helping with drainage of condensation under the CleanSpace and also as a sort of cushion for crawling on and over.
One Last View of the Drainage Mat
Here is one final view of the drainage matting before our crew laid out the CleanSpace in the crawlspace. You can also see on some of the walls, how the CleanSpace wall (which is a thinner version of normal CleanSpace) has already been installed on the walls. This helps to make a better, more efficient seal, which is something that we always make sure we do!
Installed CleanSpace Liner in Crawlspace
Here is the finished project that the crew had installed! While not the best view, you can see a lot of the work that was done. The CleanSpace was laid over the entire crawlspace floor and most of the walls. However, here you can see that the CleanSpace only goes less than a foot up the support columns, because these columns are on the inside of the home, which means that water isn't going to be pushing through it.
CleanSpace Liner and CleanSpace Wall
Here both the CleanSpace Liner and Wall can be seen. The CleanSpace liner is a thicker version, that is laid on the ground, since this is where the most amount of water is likely to come through. The CleanSpace wall is a little thinner, because less water is likely to come through the walls, but should still be protected.
Wider View of Encapsulated Crawlspace
While a little dark, this photo gives a little wider of a view of the crawlspace than many of the other pictures. You get to see a good view of the CleanSpace on the walls, floor, and even the support columns. Although this seems like a home that had intense water intrusion, the main purpose of this project was to just improve the look of the crawlspace!
Installed CleanSpace Liner
Here is the final picture showing the installed CleanSpace liner. CleanSpace is a product that can really change the look and functionality of a crawlspace. It does not have to be a dark, scary place anymore. You can convert it into a usable storage space, when you have a system installed by us! When your crawlspace has a way to regulate the humidity, things are safe to be stored, without worry.
