Wet and Moldy Crawlspace Repaired in Cedar Mountain, NC
Challenge
This customer's crawlspace was soaked from floor to ceiling! This crawlspace was really wet and filled with mold. As you will see in one of the photos, there was actually some fungi ( a mushroom) on the the floor joists! It goes without saying, but the challenge on this project, was making sure that the crawlspace was completely clear of any water. The other big challenge was to make sure that any mold that was already growing was killed and cleaned off. This makes it harder for the mold to grow back once we install our CleanSpace Liner and dehumidifier.
Solution
Our solution was simple, but very effective. While we recommend a full encapsulation, this customer decided to go just for a CleanSpace their floor and not walls, as well as a dehumidifier and a sump pump. The first order of business was, of course, to get rid of the mold and moisture. The insulation under the home was soaked and had to be removed. After this we used Mold-X, which is a heavy duty mold cleaner. After the crew had removed all of the water, and cleaned mold off of every surface (which was mainly the floor joists), the crew started on the CleanSpace Liner.
While the Mold-X helps to solve the problem short-term, the CleanSpace Liner and Dehumidifier help to solve the problem long-term. The CleanSpace keeps water from making its way into the crawlspace and the dehumidifier keeps any moisture that does makes its way in from staying there for long. The last way we kept water out of this basement is to install a sump pump. We also use a drainage tile to help drain any water under the CleanSpace Liner. This drain tile collects and moves this water and drains it to the sump pump.
This home had some major issues, but nothing that we were not able to handle. It took a lot of difficult and dedicated hours to make sure this customer's crawlspace was mold and moisture free, and of course that it would stay this way after we left! Our goal at All-Dry of the Carolina's is to make sure we protect customer's homes the best we can. We want each and every person who chooses us to protect their basement or crawlspace to be happy about their purchase and ready to welcome us back should any other issues with their home arise!
