Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Lake Lure, NC Moisture Ridden Basement gets Encapsulation and Smart Jack Support Beams

Having a moisture free, stable basement is more important than most people seem to realize. If the downstairs is in trouble, the upstairs isn’t far behind and so the best way to combat any problems is to have it fully secured. This home pictured here had a crawlspace with a dirt floor and they were experiencing major moisture issues. The home also had brick walls and a plastic liner thrown over the floor, which did nothing but help the home’s problems. And, of course, the space also had old, rotted beams supporting the upper floor. If the home wasn’t already having issues, they were surely going to start. So our Design Specialist prescribed several products to assist the home. Pictured below, David Listovitch, the Design Specialist, suggested CleanSpace Liner (which goes on the floor) as well as CleanSpace Wall and Drainage Matting to seal the space from moisture issues. The client also decided to go with our SuperSump Plus to pump out water in the event that the space floods. To replace the older, decaying beams we installed our Smart Jacks as well as a few supplemental beams to support the upper floor. This album will show the transformation of the crawlspace throughout the installation process.

Initial Inspection

This basement has a dirt floor with a thin sheet of plastic covering the floor. This plastic isn't particularly helpful, especially when it comes to moisture issues.

Problems Moisture causes

Here is a picture of one of the support beams in the basement. Our Design Specialist took this picture to show how much damage water can cause in a space. On the beam, there is efflorescence which is what water leaves behind when it dries. Seeing this, our specialist knew something had to be done.

In this picture, you see rotted wooden beams supporting the upper floor. Our specialist saw this red flag and decided to stall the Smart Jacks.

Full Encapsulation

Originally, the space had exposed brick walls and a dirt floor. In order to combat the moisture issue, our Design Specialist suggested a full encapsulation using CleanSpace liner and CleanSpace Wall.
