Hill Against Basement Wall
This was the biggest area of concern for the System Design Specialist who went out to this home. This hill that the home was built into was transferring a lot of water into the wall of the basement. While this wasn't a great situation, this was really the only area of concern. The Specialist wanted to make sure this area and the wall around the corner had proper drainage.
Basement Wall Completely Soaked
This is one of the big issues that this homeowner was dealing with. As you can see, there is a huge area where the water has been coming through the wall. There is also efflorescence on the wall, which indicates that this definitely is not the first time that this has happened. Efflorescence is the white powder-like substance on the wall, which is actually minerals that are left behind when the water evaporates.
Wall Affected by Water Intrusion
This is the same wall that was shown in the previous picture, but more towards the door. As you can see, the further down the wall, the less water intrusion had occurred. However, having this water consistently getting into the basement (even a small amount further down the wall) can not only affect the home, but the health of the homeowners.
Installed WaterGuard Drain
Here is some of the WaterGuard that was installed in this basement. This wall was actually adjacent to the wall that has been shown in the previous photos, but because its location with the wall with severe water intrusion. WaterGuard has an extremely low profile, as it is completely "underground" or in the floor of the basement.
Installed CleanSpace, WaterGuard, and Sump Pump
This photo gives a pretty good look at the entire system that was installed in this basement to prevent further damage from water intrusion. The CleanSpace covers the wall where the majority of the water was coming through, which catches the water and drains it down to the WaterGuard. The WaterGuard then moves the water down to the sump pump, where it is pumped away from the home.
Installed CleanSpace Wall Liner
The CleanSpace Wall is extremely important in this particular case because of the amount of water that was making its way into the basement. In many homes this isn't necessary because the water is coming in more around the bottom of the wall, but this wasn't the case for this home. The CleanSpace will ensure that any water that comes in through the wall is caught and drained to the WaterGuard.
Installed SuperSump System
This photo shows off the sump pump system that was installed in this basement in order to pump out any water that makes its way into the area. To prevent a possible electrical failure, these sump systems must be on their own dedicated outlet. This ensures that the SuperSump has a reliable power source that isn't shared with anything else.
SuperSump Pump Close-Up
This picture gives a better view of the SuperSump. This isn't your ordinary sump pump, it has several features that sets it apart from competitors. The liner is one of the big benefits of a SuperSump, the liner allows water in, but keeps water from escaping through the airtight lid. It also has a WaterWatch Alarm (the red and yellow "hockey puck") that notifies the homeowner if the pump is not functioning and the water level is rising.
