Wall Anchor Installation on Demorest, Georgia Home to Repair Indoor and Outdoor Walls
Challenge
As far as foundation repair solutions go, wall anchors tend to be one of our more popular options, especially for bowing basement walls and retaining walls (like the one seen in the first photo). Wall anchors are a relatively simple, but very effective solution to this type of issue, because they are able to hold the walls back, and in most cases actually pull them back towards their original position. Another great thing about wall anchors are that they can be progressively tightened, meaning that after a few months, we may be able to come back and correct the wall even further.
There were not really any troubles during this project, but the biggest thing was how many wall anchors we needed to install. Originally there were only supposed to be 11 wall anchors installed in this home, however, the homeowner put off getting this work done for over a year, which left the problem to get worse. When our Specialist went to visit the home again, the proposal was changed to 15 wall anchors, because more of the wall had began to crack. We have done several jobs with at least 15, if not more wall anchors installed, however, it is still quite the project for a crew of three to knock out!
Solution
That being said, the crew that worked on this job has been doing foundation work for several years together, and is our dedicated foundation work crew. The foreman is Francisco, who has been working at All-Dry of the Carolinas for well over a decade, and knows just about everything that has to do with our foundation projects. Our hard-working crew was the real solution to this project!
The most difficult part of this job is probably making sure the wall anchors are spaced properly along the wall. Fortunately this is taken care of before the crew arrives on site, so all they have to do is measure everything out. Wall anchors are places equidistant apart from each other so that the weight/pressure of the wall is not exerted on any one anchor more than the others. As you can see, this is the procedure for both the inside and the outside wall anchors.
Once the crew marked out where each of the wall anchors were to be installed, they began digging the holes for the other side of the wall anchor, the Geo-Lock plate. The crew marked the locations and dug all of the holes before they started to actually install the anchors. To install the anchors, the crew must drill a hole from the wall, into the ground until they make it to the hole that they dug. The only thing left after that is to connect all of the plates and start to tighten up all of the anchors and begin correcting the wall.
